Choose a white that belongs with the trim
Put colour samples beside the posts, weatherboards, window frames and paving. A warm white can appear creamier next to a cool grey wall; a cleaner white can look sharper against warmer materials. Judge the combination in the place where it will be used, rather than choosing from a screen alone.
View the samples in open daylight and under the verandah roof. The same railing may pass through sun and deep shade along one run. If matching existing painted posts, compare against a clean, representative area and discuss whether those posts will be repainted as part of the work. Ageing and surface dirt can change the apparent colour.
Consider sheen and surface detail together
Ask your painter to show the proposed product and sheen on a suitable sample. A lower-sheen appearance may support the relaxed look you want, while a different sheen may suit existing trim. Suitability for the substrate and exposure needs to come from the coating specification, not the image used in a design mood board.
Timber remains a physical material under paint. Edges, joints and small surface variations contribute to its appearance. In an inspiration image, believable shadows beneath the handrail and around the joins matter more than exaggerated visible grain. An immaculate white outline with no depth can make even a good design look artificial.
Separate the style image from the supplied finish
Use the balustrade photo gallery to compare finished appearances. Pair a preferred photograph with a brochure code and confirm the panel specification with our team.
For an enquiry, pair the preferred image with a brochure code and your measured opening schedule. If the image contains a custom arrangement, identify what you want to keep. The supplier can then confirm which elements correspond to a listed product and which require further design.
Plan any later painting separately
- The supplied material is LOSP-treated pine in its natural finish.
- Karem supplies natural LOSP-treated pine, unpainted and unprimed. Any later painting is arranged separately by the customer.
- Identify who is responsible for preparation, coating, cut surfaces and touch-ups.
- Ask the coating manufacturer and supplier to confirm a compatible system and timing.
- Discuss how all necessary faces will be accessible before assembly and installation.
This page does not specify a universal paint system. Treatment, substrate, exposure and the selected coating product affect the instructions. Follow the current written requirements for the actual materials, and resolve any conflicting advice before work starts.
Plan how the finished verandah will be used
Think about the complete frontage: pot placement, furniture, garden beds and how you will access the railing for inspection and care. Choose a pattern you still like when viewed close up from the verandah as well as from the street. Ask for maintenance guidance with the coating specification and keep the product details for future repairs.
Start with the Hampton range or traditional timber profiles, then compare your opening in the Balustrade Shop. Use the brochures to identify the product and confirm the supply scope in writing. Final panel construction, height, spacing and fixing details still need to be resolved for your site.
